چکیده

A nearly simultaneous X-ray/optical (Chandra and VLT) observational campaign of RXJ0806.3+1527 has been carried out during 2001. These observations allowed us to phase the X–ray and optical light curves for the first time. We measured a phase–shift of ∼0.5, in good agreement with the presence of two distinct emission regions and with the X–ray irradiation process predictions. The Chandra data allowed us also to study in details the X-ray spectrum of RXJ0806.3+1527, which is consistent with a soft (kT<70 eV) and small (RBB <20 km) blackbody component. We discuss the present findings on the light of the models proposed so far to account for the X–ray emission detected from RXJ0806.3+1527, and its twin source RXJ1914.4+2456.

Search for Fast Correlated X-ray and Optical Variability in Cir X-1 and Xte J1746-321

Coordinated observations X-ray+optical observations of two southern X-ray binaries, the black hole candidate XTE J1746-321 and the neutron star accreter Cir X-1 (a 'microquasar') are reported. With a photon counting optical photometer on the 1.9m telescope at Sutherland, South Africa and the PCA detector on RXTE, 4h each of simultaneous data were obtained on XTE J1746 and Cir X-1. Cir X-1 showe...

Detection of negative superhumps in a LMXRB – an end to the long debate on the nature of V 1405 Aql ( X 1916 - 053 )

The detection of two similar periodicities (3001 and 3028 s) in the light curve of V1405 Aql, a low mass X-ray Binary (LMXRB), has attracted the attention of many observers. Two basic competing models have been offered for this system. According to the first, V1405 Aql is a triple system. The second model invokes the presence of an accretion disc that precesses in the apsidal plane, suggesting ...

Five Years in the Life of Cygnus X-1: BATSE Long-Term Monitoring

The hard X-ray emission from Cygnus X-1 has been monitored continually by BATSE since the launch of CGRO in April 1991. We present the hard X-ray intensity and spectral history of the source covering a period of more than five years. Power spectral analysis shows a significant peak at the binary orbital period. The 20–100 keV orbital light curve is roughly sinusoidal with a minimum near superio...

Orbital Parameters for the X-ray Pulsar Igr J16393-4643

With recent and archival Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) X-ray measurements of the heavily obscured X-ray pulsar IGR J16393-4643, we carried out a pulse timing analysis to determine the orbital parameters. Assuming a circular orbit, we phase-connected data spanning over 1.5 years. The most likely orbital solution has a projected semi-major axis of 43 ± 2 lt-s and an orbital period of 3.6875 ...

Discovery of a 692.5 S Period in the X-ray Binary 4u 1820−30: an Indication of a Superhumper?

The X-ray source 4U 1820−30 in the globular cluster NGC 6624 is known as the most compact binary among the identified X-ray binaries. Having an orbital period of 685.0 s, the source consists of a neutron star primary and likely a 0.06–0.08 M⊙ white dwarf secondary. Here we report on far-ultraviolet (FUV) observations of this X-ray binary, made with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph on bo...
